Louisa Clement’s series body fallacy (2021) shows an oversized, nude female figure in various poses. The body appears in fragments and is never fully revealed, creating a sense of distance and disorientation. Rather than portraying a real person, Clement photographs the body of a “Real Doll,” whose hyperrealistic texture is nearly indistinguishable from that of a living human. The images evoke the visual language of social media, where bodies are routinely perfected through retouching and filters. The title body fallacy already points to the visual deception at play, highlighting the fundamental misreading that occurs when artificial bodies are perceived as real. The work ultimately underscores the increasing convergence of real and digital image worlds, in which artificiality and visual manipulation have become standard.
