Magdalena Jetelová's 1991 work takes up the motif of the Black Square, one of the most radical icons of modernism, and reinterprets it for the present. In the form of a light box, Jetelová transforms Kazimir Malevich's original painterly proposition into an immaterial, light-based spatial event. The square no longer appears as a static image but as a luminous surface that changes according to the viewer's position and its surrounding environment.

With this work, Jetelová shifts the boundaries between sculpture, installation, and image. She questions the idea of the absolute form and opens it up to new modes of perception and experience. At the same time, her use of light refers to one of the central artistic media of the 1980s and 1990s, placing the historical legacy of the avant-garde into dialogue with the media-shaped realities of the late twentieth century. Jetelová's light box is therefore more than a homage: it is a precise reflection on the conditions of visibility, space, and meaning at the close of the twentieth century.
